As a woman who feels with all of my senses, I believe rushing cuts of sensuality. If you find yourself rushing through your day, pause a while and savor one of two of these feminine principals and rituals that honor them.
1. Self-Reflect
Find a time in your day to pause, slow down, become mindful and reflect inwards. Mornings, before the world starts to stir, are my most favorite time to reflect and set the tone for the day ahead, but you might prefer the end of the day. Either way, include a meditation as part of your self-reflection.
I started meditating some time ago as a way to stay focused and feel calm. My head is constantly swimming with new ideas –especially in the mornings, so I need the focus to follow through with projects and stop myself getting distracted. If you’re new to mediating start out with a few minutes – five minutes is better than nothing and pick the time of day that best suits your lifestyle. There are many mediation apps out there or hop onto YouTube and find a meditation that speaks to you.
Stop and take three deep breaths; you’ll be surprised how centered you’ll feel. When you are feeling centered, you can do your best in stressful situations such as taking a test or working through a disagreement with a friend.
2. Connect with Nature
Wherever you live, seek out Mother Nature’s healing bounty. If you are fortunate to live close to the beach or a lake make it a ritual to walk barefoot on the wet sand or around the lake. Your local park or woods can offer a tranquil setting too! I’ll either take an early morning walk — especially during the busier summer months or after the workday and breathe in the fresh ocean air and marvel at the velocity of the ocean. I am constantly astonished at this miraculous element that is cleansing and pure.
Use the ocean as a metaphor to accept and acknowledge your emotions as a woman and recognize they will and do fluctuate. Some days the ocean is calm like a lake, and other days the waves are wild and ferocious. No two days are the same. This allows me to let my feelings and emotions come and go.
3. Release with Spontaneous Play Time
Make time for play. Our culture glorifies being “busy” and doing-ness. This just feels and sounds harsh to me. When a woman uses busyness as an excuse to put aside her own precious needs and desires, it saddens me. Deeply. The imbalances of a stressful life are felt throughout the whole being––body, mind and spirit.
Where can you be spontaneous? Sometimes I’ll call my hubby and ask him to meet me somewhere after work, or surprise him with a day out at a local museum or a better yet, a weekend get-away.
4. Flow with Creativity
What gets your creative juices flowing and you forget about time; painting, sewing, knitting, writing or dancing perhaps? Do something you love! Cooking is therapeutic and an adventure you can enjoy with your partner. It’s so much more fun than dining out!
When you’re in the flow you are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable.
Feminine energy goes with the flow of life. I am blessed to enjoy this life and share these tips in the hope they inspire you.
